Inspiration for my Sunday Inspiring Words posts come from a variety of places - the books I'm reading, events in the week, things I've seen online and this week it's a mash of things including Purpose Driven Life (a 40 day devotional I'm reading with a small group from my church, but I've been 'naughty' and started reading ahead! It's good stuff!) and Planes which I went to see with my family today (saturday) at the cinema.
Winning or success in this world is most commonly defined by the material riches a person has and a variety of other measures which give little indication about a person's heart. You only need to take a look at many of the celebrities that are idolised.
Although the real winner in Planes does indeed come first, this sadly is most often not the case in the real world. Often those who show strength of character, integrity and have a good heart are seemingly left behind. It can be hard to feel that you're not making it, but would you want to?
Would you be happy if you compromised your values and rode rough shod over others in order to secure first place? Is one man's first place 'winning' to you? Or do you define success and winning by a different set of values and principles?
It is hard not to compare ourselves to others, but if we are to have peace within ourselves then we need to stick with our values, and I'm assuming you have good ones. We need to act with integrity, honesty and a good heart because it is this that makes us real winners. If you do rise to the top of your field, then bonus.
How do you define success? What makes you a winner? How do you deal with those who appear to win despite not playing fair?
